World Book Day Just A Week Away

We can almost feel the tension at All Fancy Dress Towers, with World Book Day just 1 week away! The annual event, which is bigger than ever, is due to take place on 1st March 2012. The main purpose of the event is to encourage children to read more, but it’s also about having a lot of fun in the process!

Whilst not compulsory, the majority of UK primary schools do celebrate the day in one form or another. Some schools invite in authors for special book readings whereas others organise special dressing up events for pupils, which gives kids a chance to dress up as the favourite fictional character. The usual suspects are popular, such as Harry Potter and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, but kids are also choosing to dress up as more unusual characters too, such as Dennis the Menace. Some children even choose to go as the favourite Star Wars character!

If you would like to find out more about the event then why not check out the official World Book Day website. If your child is thinking of dressing up for the day and you’re stuck for ideas then why not visit our Book Day costumes section.

Kids up and down the UK are starting to get excited about the prospect of celebrating World Book Day, which falls on the 1st March this year. The event celebrates and encourages reading in general, and really helps kids to feel engaged more with books- every child is given a £1 book token to spend on a book of their choice. Many schools support the day by encouraging pupils to dress up as their favourite literary character, and this really helps them to get inside the mind of that character even more.

Hermione Granger CostumeOf course the classic children's books are really popular source of inspiration when it comes to selecting a costume. Wizard of Oz is a particular favourite, as is Peter Pan and the classic fairy tales. Over the last few years though Harry Potter costumes have been probably the most popular costume choice for Book Day. And it’s not just Harry that kids are dressing up as! The Hermione Granger costume is just as popular choice, if not more so! ‘Girl Power’ is still alive!
